Why Those Purple Veins Appear on Some Legs

Noticing purple or blue veins on the legs is more common than many people realize.
These visible veins—often called spider veins or surface veins—can appear for several reasons. Sometimes it’s genetics. Sometimes it’s age. Hormonal changes, long periods of standing, pregnancy, or even skin tone can make veins more noticeable.
In most cases, they are not dangerous.
For many people, they are simply a cosmetic change. For others, they can come with mild discomfort, heaviness, or fatigue in the legs—especially after long days.
What they don’t do is define your health on their own.
Bodies change quietly over time. Some signs are visible. Others are not. And not every visible change is a warning—sometimes it’s just information.
Understanding your body starts with curiosity, not fear.
